`The Green Heart of Borneo, Brunei - A Kingdom of Unexpected Treasures' have been used to describe Brunei. Neat, catchy, modern but peace abounds. It is suitable for its name of Brunei Darussalam which the word ‘Darussalam’ have a meaning of ‘abode of peace’. Located on the northern shore of the Island of Borneo, between longitudes 114’04″ and 114’23″ East and latitudes 4’00″ and 5’05″ North nestled between Sabah and Sarawak in Borneo. Brunei is a small country but it is very rich country located in south east Asia because of its natural gas petroleum resources.
Today, Brunei has a population of about 400,000 people, with the majority being Malays. Bahasa Melayu (Malay) is the official language, but English is widely spoken. Mandarin, Chinese dialects and native languages of Borneo are also spoken by segments of the population. The official religion in Brunei is Islam. Hence, there are no night clubs or discos in Brunei as alcohol is prohibited.
The capital city is Bandar Seri Begawan. The climate of Brunei Darussalam is equatorial climate which the average temperature of Brunei is between 28°c to 32°c. There is no distinct rainy season, though the period from November to March tends to bring heavier rains. Brunei Darussalam has 4 Districts: Brunei-Muara (housing the capital city), Tutong, Belait, and Temburong.
