Silver Jubilee Park in Kuala Belait
Located beside Jalan Maulana and facing the South China Sea, the Silver Jubilee Park and beach along South China Sea was built to memorialize the Silver Jubilee of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah’s accession to the throne, as a souvenir from the people of Kuala Belait. Apart from the commemorative arch (pintu gerbang in Malay) and the monument, the park features exhibition huts, shelters, toilets and a children’s playground. The monument was built to celebrate the 50th Birthday of the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.
Bandar Seri Begawan, capital of Brunei, is situated on the riverbanks of the Brunei. Part of it is Kampung Ayer, which is actually built on the river and which exists already for many centuries. Kampong Ayer, or the Water Village (Kampong Ayer) is an area of Brunei's capital city Bandar Seri Begawan that is situated Brunei Bay. It has about 42 villages and has more than 30,000 people live in Kampong Ayer. Brunei kampong Ayer is the largest water village in the world. To be able to do so, a maze of wooden walkways has been constructed connecting all houses and buildings, as well as landing sites for boats. Bridges allow for boats to cross the canals under the "streets".
Named after Omar Ali Saifuddien III, the 28th sultan of Brunei, the mosque as a symbol of the Islamic faith in Brunei dominates the skyline of Bandar Seri Begawan. The building was completed in 1958 and is an impressive example of modern Islamic architecture. The mosque's most recognizable feature, the main dome, is covered in pure gold. In a unique way it mixes Renaissance and Italian architectural style. The minarett has an elevator to the top, where one can enjoy a panaromic view of the city. The interior of the mosque is for prayer only. It has magnificent stained glass windows, arches, semi-domes and marble columns. Nearly all the material used for the building has been imported from abroad: the marble from Italy, the granite from Shanghai, the crystal chandeliers from England and the carpets from Saudi Arabia
